Love is absolutely an accident. An indecipherable feeling of attraction and chemistry, that lasts unpredictably long. Sometimes longer than a lifetime, but more often not. Like you said, it's unique to the combination of the two people it's between.
But I don't think that its love that grows with time though. It's, for lack of a more romantic word, compatibility.
There are those that love the people they just can't end up getting along with, or at the very least, have to work very hard to compromise to each others' needs. On the other side there are those that dont feel that intense spark even with those they have the most understanding and enjoyable relationship. That rare winning combination is to find both. And even then, who knows how long that lasts.
