I would have to disagree with both of you here, or perhaps I'm agreeing with both of you, I'm unsure...Science can be used to explain nearly everything in this world...even most preferences have a science to them...for example when asked what's attractive in a given situation, women choose the ravishing strong masculine type faces when asked to pick a sexual partner, while the less masculine men were usually picked when women were shown faces and asked who struck them as a better long term mate. So whats to say there isn't a science to any given art that we just haven't discovered yet? Probably the fact that preference (in emotional things like art or attraction) in broad respects is pretty uniform while specifics tend to vary greatly. People can pick out a bad musician, but whats to say one can't dislike someone with obvious talent. So I'm sure it's possible for an algorithm to create music that some would find appealing. My point being (though I think I may have strayed away from it, or at least not properly explained my stance) is that there is a science that ends where individuality preference kicks in...the specifics. I think I lost my point. Oh well.
