I have nothing productive to add...I just felt like saying enviromentalists LOVE to call it murder, they FAR from shy away from it...one of the more popular slogans "Fur is Murder". They use the word murder because of the reasons you stated...because it brings humanity to mind, but that doesn't keep them away from the word
